“Federal officials fork over cash for Green Line extension” (Boston Globe)
“The Green Line extension has been going on for a while, but the Commonwealth has been paying all the actual dollars for it,” said John Dalton, the MBTA manager overseeing the Green Line project. The payment, he said, is “comforting and reassuring, and underscores what we’ve been saying for a long time: that the FTA wants to see the project go forward.”

“The state has spent about $536 million so far in its efforts to extend the Green Line into Somerville and Medford. Production was halted two years ago amid skyrocketing budget estimates, forcing a scaled-back design that is expected to cost $2.3 billion and add seven new stops in Somerville and Medford.”

“Dalton also told the board Monday that the project schedule is going to be moved up slightly to maximize the work that can be done during the 2018 construction season, though the completion date will not change. Dalton said he expects to give the design-build team the go-ahead, or notice to proceed, 61 days earlier than anticipated, on Dec. 11, 2017. The project completion date is still pegged at Dec. 10, 2021, Dalton said.”
