Help fix our transportation mess: Support Gov. Patrick’s bill!

We urge you to contact your legislators to let them know you want them to fix the state’s transportation infrastructure and address the needed revenues to adequately fund public transportation across the state.
What can you do to voice your support now?
Call, email or write the chairs and members of the Joint Transportation Committee, the House and Senate Ways and Means Committees, and the Chairs of the Revenue Committees. (See contact information after the link below).
Go to the State House on Thursday, March 11th at 1 PM. to attend the Public Hearing on the Transportation Bill at the State House in Room I-A. Tell the Committee why it must pass the legislation and not reduce the gas tax increase the Governor has proposed.


What is at stake for the citizens and economy of the Commonwealth if we do not address the state’s current & future transportation needs?
The gas tax increase seems like a lot of money, but 19 cents per gallon is just enough for the state to:

  • Maintain current MBTA service and not raise MBTA fares, otherwise we will see major service reductions along with higher fares
  • Fix roads and bridges in desperate need of repair because maintenance has been deferred, otherwise we will pay for more expensive emergency repairs – such as on the Longfellow Bridge — but will not achieve a 21st century transportation system,
  • Avoid unfairly instituting excessive tolls on the users of the Mass Pike and airport tunnels
  • Ensure adequate operating funding for the MBTA so that it will be able to provide service on the Green Line extensions in Somerville even if the state gets federal funding to construct the lines through Somerville
  • Provide much needed public transportation across the state through the Regional Transportation Authorities.
  • Initiate the “Healthy Transportation Compact” to bring the Secretaries of Transportation, Health, and Environment together to set policies to “coordinate land use, transportation, and public health policy.”
  • Ensure that the transportation system supports sound economic development throughout the state
